This extension doesn't have any residency requirements.
Technical requirements
.LU domains require the DNS to be active on different subnets and to be authoritative for the domain at the time of registration.

Registrations
.lu domain registrations are immediate.
Transfers
Once the transfer of the domain has been requested, dns.lu will send an email to the administrative contact's email account for acceptance.
If the transfer has not been accepted after two weeks, it will be canceled.
Please note that restarting or canceling the transfer incurs a non-refundable fee of €4.00, so we recommend accepting it as soon as possible.
The transfer adds one year of registration to the domain, however, it should be noted that this year is added not to the domain's expiration date, but to the transfer completion date.
Renewals
Renewing your .LU domain only takes a minute and can be requested at any time. The process will not be completed until the current expiration date arrives.
Cancellations
It's impossible to cancel once they've been registered, you must wait until the domain expires and not renew it.
DNS modifications
DNS modification is immediate, please note they must propagate through the network, this process can take up to 6-12 hours to complete, until then the domain will still point to the previous DNS servers.
DNSSEC
We allow the usage of DNSSEC on .lu domains. Your domain can take advantage of this additional security layer that DNS servers that are compatible with this technology can provide.

Permitted characters / IDN
- .lu domains permit characters from 'a' to 'z', numbers from '0' to '9' and hyphens '-'.
- A hyphen '-' is not permitted in the first or last position of the domain name.
- Two consecutive hyphens are not permitted in the 3rd and 4th position.
- IDN characters are permitted in .lu domains.

IDN domains don't permit to mix different Scripts or character sets (for example, Latin, Greek or Cyrillic).
But it's possible to use different character tables for a same script.
- The Latin Script permits the use of characters of Latin-1 supplement, Latin Extended-A, Latin Extended-B, etc.. tables.
- The Greek Script permits to combine characters of the Greek, Greek Extended, etc.. tables, doesn't permit combine them with the normal latin characters (a-z), but permits the use of numbers or hyphens.
- Other script types have their own corresponding tables.
