Validity of SSL certificates
When reviewing SSL certificates, two different dates appear:
- Validity date: indicates until when the SSL certificate is valid.
- Subscription date: corresponds to the date on which the SSL certificate needs to be renewed (next payment).

Why are there two different dates?
In March 2026, a change initiated by the CA/Browser Forum (CA/B Forum), together with the main web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, etc.), that affects the duration and management of SSL certificates has come into force. Since this month, SSL certificates have a validity of 200 days, even though payment continues to be made annually.
This reduction has a clear objective: to strengthen web security. These shorter validity cycles help minimize risks and strengthen infrastructures in an environment where threats are constantly evolving.
What are the implications?
This change means that SSL certificates now need to be reissued throughout the subscribed period. The reissuance process is free and involves domain validation (DV), organization validation (OV) in company certificates, as well as the need to install the reissued certificate on the server.
If you have your website hosted on DonDominio, you will not need to take any action. We will handle the reissuance of the certificate and install it on your server, ensuring everything continues to function as before.
Will it always be like this?
The reduction in the validity of certificates to 200 days is just the first step, as it is expected that the validity of the certificates will reach 47 days. This is the projected schedule:
2026: SSL certificates will have a validity of 200 days.
2027: a validity reduction of a total of 100 days is expected, approximately a quarterly reissuance.
2029: it would reach the validity period of only 47 days. This will imply the reissuance of certificates approximately every month and a half.
